Coaching with the National Federation of Anglers

For many people coaching is a new concept in fishing which is gaining momentum and credibility since its formal inception in 1998. I am pleased to inform you that I was one of the coaches to attend the first National Federation of Anglers coaching course in those early days. Since then the qualification has grown to encompass all three disciplines of sea, coarse and game angling. In 2001 I was selected to be part of the pilot group successfully completing the new Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling, qualifying to coach sea and coarse angling where I specialise in sea shore fishing and all aspects of coarse angling.

Many of you who are new to angling may stand and watch the experienced angler and think ‘how do they do that?’ In all probability just a couple of hours invested with a qualified coach like myself can reap rewards with increased catch rates when out fishing. Some of this work can be done at home away from the water, where many skills like tying knots, tying hooks and casting accuracy do not need the distraction of trying to catch fish. When you are comfortable with these skills you can go waterside to put your newfound knowledge into practice. Alternatively as an experienced angler, seek some coaching to improve your existing skill level.

How to use a disgorger

Many young children simply enjoy going fishing whilst their parents have no previous experience of our sport. Join me as a parent with your child or a group of parents with children and have some of the mysteries unravelled.

For small groups, and that may be a group of friends, I offer courses complete with the supply of fishing tackle. The course content can be individually designed to meet the requirements and skill level of the group. Delivery can be class room based, waterside based or a combination of the two to achieve best practice. Certificates of attendance are available and some courses have the potential for formal recognition and certification.
